Best Buy’s Low-Priced Laptop Mega Sale: Save Up to 64% on Chromebooks

Google’s introduction of the Chromebook platform in 2011 was one of the most disruptive events to hit the laptop world, as its Chrome OS quickly beat Windows in power efficiency, virus protection, and more. Chromebooks soon became a popular choice for schools, but there are many other reasons to consider one, especially during Best Buy’s outrageous Chromebook sale. They have a ton of models discounted, but I picked out four that we’ve reviewed and have massive discounts, some over 60% off.

The biggest price drop to be found in the Best Buy Chromebook sale is a whopping 64% off of HP’s baseline Chrome OS portable, bringing it down to a ridiculous $119. We gave it a decent review back in 2019, noting that it had a surprisingly nice-feeling keyboard and a solid loadout of both USB-A and USB-C ports, but it’s not going to dazzle you with high-profile performance. This edition has been upgraded with an Intel Celeron processor (moving away from AMD). For a little over a hundred bucks, it’s the best laptop value on the market.

Let’s lead off with a great example of how low Chromebooks can go. At $299, the Acer Chromebook 315 is a perfectly decent portable, with a big screen, smooth and responsive touchpad, and decent selection of ports. In our review, we gave it a “Good” rating, noting that it’s not particularly a powerhouse but it gets the job done for everyday productivity tasks. But chop that price down to $182 and things look very different. It’s a miracle to get a full laptop and a carrying case for that price, and for students and casual users this is a can’t-miss pick.

Some Chromebooks impress with both power and price. Case in point: the Lenovo Flex 5i Chromebook Plus, which we gave an Editors’ Choice award to in our review. This portable features the exemplary build quality and responsive keyboard input that we love about much more expensive Lenovo laptops, along with a great 2K display with both touch and pen support, zippy Chrome OS performance, and a weight of just 3.57 pounds. It’s a great all-around machine that’s made for daily use, and a $250 price drop makes it an incredible bargain.

For something a little more potent, Google introduced the Chromebook Plus platform a couple years back. Still targeted to run on inexpensive processors and other components, laptops labeled Plus guarantee a baseline level of performance, speed and usability, with many of them seriously competitive compared to much more expensive Windows machines. The Asus CX14 is a more budget-focused Plus, but in our review we had great things to say about its good battery life, solid port selection, and attractive pricing. Grabbing one for $250 is a treat.
